Arnav Aggarwal beats schoolmate, wins Table Tennis title

Arnav Aggarwal of Gurukul Global School overpowered a tough challenge by his schoolmate Samarth to win the boys’ U-19 title during the ongoing 1st Chandigarh State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament at the Sector 50 Sports Complex.

In a see-saw battle, Aggarwal recorded a (11-5, 8-11, 4-11, 11-7, 11-8) win to claim the title. Earlier in the semis, Aggarwal defeated Pritish Sood (11-7, 8-11, 11-3, 11-9), and Samarth overpowered Vishal (7-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-9).

Before qualifying for the semis, Aggarwal defeated Vihaan Dhalla (11-3, 11-5, 11-8), Sood ousted Harkeerat (11-3, 11-4, 9-11, 11-7), Vishal outplayed Aariv Goel (11-7, 11-8, 11-8) and Samarth outclassed Vaibhav (11-4, 11-4, 11-8).

Twin delight for Pelf

Pelf of DAV Public School easily overpowered Cherrish of Delhi Public School (12-10, 11-5, 11-4) to win the girls’ U-19 final. In the semis, Cherrish defeated Parneet (11-2, 11-7, 11-3) and Pelf overpowered Vani (4-11, 11-7, 11-5, 12-10). In the quarterfinals, Parneet defeated Neha (3-11, 11-7, 11-5, 12-10), Cherrish blanked Deevanshi (11-8, 11-6, 11-6), Vaani overpowered Hasartjit Kaur (11-8, 19-17, 9-11, 8-11, 11-7) and Pelf blanked Teetiksha (11-8, 11-7, 11-5).

In the women’s final, Pelf faced a tough resistance from Teetiksha. However, the former won the title by a whisker. In the first game, Pelf registered an 11-5 win. However, Teetiksha fought back by winning the next three (8-11, 10-12, 2-11). As the match seemed to be in Teetiksha’s grip, Pelf bounced back by logging (11-6, 13-11, 11-9) win to grab the tile. In the semis, Teetiksha defeated Vani (11-2, 11-7, 11-6, 8-11, 11-7) and Pelf outplayed Paavan (11-7, 10-12, 2-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-1).

Abhinav Bailwal won the men’s final by registering a comeback win over Sunil Ahuja. Bailwal recorded a (7-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-6, 6-11, 11-8) win to claim the title. Earlier, Ahuja defeated Rishabh (11-5, 11-3, 11-7, 11-5) and Bailwal overpowered Ankush Kapoor (11-6, 9-11, 11-3, 6-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-7) to reach the final.
