City shuttler Anupama Upadhyay won a bronze medal in the U-15 girls’ singles competition during the Pembangunan Jaya Raya Junior Grand Prix Tournament, which concluded in Jakarta on May 5. A student of CL DAV Public School, Sector 11, Anupama had earlier represented the country in the Sub-Junior Asian Badminton Championship in Burma. The youngster trains under Rohit Mandhan at Tau Devi Lal Stadium.

Veteran Harish wins TT title
Chandigarh: Harish Kakkar from AG (Audit), Haryana, won the veterans’ (50+) singles title at the inaugural Indian Table Tennis Marathon 2019 in New Delhi on Sunday. In the final, Kakkar drubbed Delhi’s Anil Goel 11-7 12-10 11-9. Earlier, he beat Uttar Pradesh’s Xafar Ali 11-8 11-9 11-9, Rajeev Aggarwal of Delhi 6-11 11-9 11-6 11-9 and Rajasthan’s DM Mishra 11-9 11-7 11-9 en route the final. TNS

Ankush steers PSC to victory

Chandigarh: Punjab Secretariat (PSC) defeated Smart Talk Netcom Pvt Ltd (STNL) by six wickets in a U Forever Cricket Cup match here on Monday. Batting first, STNL were all out for 119 runs in 18.1 overs. Lovepreet (27) and Sanskar (18) made useful contributions to the STNL total. Ankush (2/16) and Ronit (2/24) claimed two wickets each. In reply, PSC rode on Ankush’s 69-run knock to reach home in 17.3 overs with six wickets in hand. Shshank contributed 28 runs to the chase. For STNL, Rohit (2/20) and Parteek (2/28) took two wickets apiece. TNS
