Another Chak De India in the making: Rani Rampal to lead the women’s hockey team

The year was 2002. The Indian women’s hockey team stunned one and all as they bagged the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games held in Manchester, England. They beat the hosts 2-1 in the
final.

The current lot will be wishing to repeat the heroics of 2002 when the team takes the field in Gold Coast, Australia from 4 th -15 th April, 2018. Rani Rampal, one of the pillars of the side, would be looking to lead from the front as captain. The team has also recently drubbed South Korea 3-1 in the five match series.

“We go into the tournament in good form after winning the series in South Korea and while we have only finished fifth in the two previous occasions, this time we will look to finish on the podium as we have a great set of players with a mixture of experience and youth. The team's hunger to win will certainly be a key factor in us performing well at the Games,” Rani said on the occasion.
