  • The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be the 21st edition of the tournament which will be hosted by Russia from 14th June to 15th July 2018. This marks the first time that the World Cup is being hosted by Russia.
  • Brazil has won the World Cup a record 5 times followed by Italy and Germany with 4 titles each.
  • This will be the first time Panama and Iceland will take part in the FIFA World Cup.
  • The final will be played at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. A total of 32 teams will play matches at 12 stadiums all across the country.
  • An estimated 715.1 million people are expected to watch the final match of the World Cup, a ninth of the entire population of the planet.
  • Group D consisting of Iceland, Argentina, Croatia and Nigeria is being called the Group of Death with all strong contenders vying for a place in the knockout stage.
  • German striker Miroslav Klose holds the record for most number of goals at the World Cup -16. Among the current players, Thomas Muller has the most World Cup goals, with 10 (5 in each of the last two tournaments).
  • Interestingly, every World Cup has been won by a coach who is the same nationality as his team.
