All India railway basketball starts

The 43rd edition of the All India Railway Basketball (Women) Championship got under way at the NF Railway Indoor Stadium, Maligaon in Assam yesterday.
The championship has been organized by the NF Railway Sports Association under the guidance of Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) which was inaugurated by Sanjive Roy, General Manager, NF Railway.
About 144 women players representing 12 teams from entire Indian Railways are participating in the tournament. In his speech Roy hoped that this national level tournament will help players to showcase their talent and prove their skill so that they are able to represent the country in international tournament. Geethu Anna Jose of Southern Railway, who is an Arjuna Award winner and captain of Indian basketball team is also participating in the tournament. Many other international players like-Sruthi Arvind, Navaneetha, Raja priyadharshini, Bhandavya, Madhu Kumari, Shireen Limaye, Pushpa and Anitha are in action in the meet. The final is slated for October 25.
