All Assam Tennis Association (AATA) monitoring fitness of state-level playersApril 22, 2020
he All Assam Tennis Association (AATA) is monitoring the fitness of the state-level players and had sent necessary instruction through their coaches. The players were advised to follow the fitness drill during their stay at home.
The sports activities throughout the country stopped totally due to lockdown imposed to combat COVID-19. However experts in this field warned the players to go with regular warm up drill otherwise they face trouble to gain fitness level quickly when sporting activities will resume again.
Talking to The Sentinel the secretary of the All Assam Tennis Association Ankush Dutta said, “We know there would be problem for the players if they don’t do regular practice during their stay at home. So we have consulted the matter with our coaches and later sent necessary instruction to our all state level players.”
The lockdown didn’t make any major effect on the tournament that AATA hosts during a calendar year. Only Inter District Tennis championship, which was scheduled to be held first week of this month, was postponed.
Dutta said: “Generally we followed November to March schedule to host the different state level tennis meets and this time we have completed all the tournaments, except Inter district, before the lock down is imposed.”
He further added: “If lockdown continues then a few national level championships would be affected. Next month we have supposed to host the Championship series at Chachal Tennis complex but the tournament is already postponed. The uncertainty is hanging on the Super Series Tennis too which All Assam Tennis Association organizes during the month of July.”
It may be mentioned here that All India Tennis Association is hoping to resume the tennis activities from July if lockdown is lifted in the next two months.
