A hat-trick by Ali saw Astqlal (Kabul) defeat Maharani High School, Assam, 3-0 in the Subroto Cup football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Monday. Ali scored his first goal in the 16th minute and added two more in the second half. The best chance for the Assam school came in the sixth minute but Krishna Rajak hit the post.
St. Ignatius High School (Jharkhand) defeated Sainik School (Mizoram) 5-3. Amarjit Oraon started the scoring for Jharkhand by slotting in the first goal in the eighth minute after the Sainik School had taken the lead earlier through Sridarth Nongmeikapam.
After getting the equaliser in the 12th minute, Harshit Bara put Jharkhand ahead with a goal in the 23rd minute even as Suraj Singh, who had made it 1-1 in the 17th minute, knocked in a goal in the 28th minute to restore parity. Jharkhand, however, pulled away through Sushil Jerai and Santosh Kujur who struck in the space of three minutes.
Government Chawnelianga High School (Mizoram) thrashed The Emerald Heights International School (Madhya Pradesh) 21-0 with goals from Lalthang Liana (6), Letminlun Singson (4), Lalmuan Puia (3), Lawm Zuala (2), Isaak Malswam Kima, V. Rin Zuala, Zonun Mawia, Vanlalmalsawma, Lalawn Puia and Melvin C Uaunlainghaka.
Holy Spirit (Goa) overcame Delhi’s Air Force Bal Bharti School 2-0, thanks to goals from Myron Fernandes, while
BKSP Rirani Savar (Bangladesh) beat Sports Hostel Namchi (Sikkim) 3-0. Mohammad Rakibul, Mohammad Alman and Tuhidul Islam scored for Rirani Savar.
In another match, Army Boys Sports Company (11 Gorkha Regimental Centre) defeated Minerva Public School (Punjab) 2-1. Ralambi Singh and Brisha Tudeu scored for Army Boys while Ram Prakash reduced the margin.
In a close contest, Sports Authority of India (Kolkata) beat Reliance Foundation School (Mumbai) through a goal from Farman Ansari.
