Advani, Mehta to delight cuesport fansJanuary 30, 2018
Aditya Mehta and Pankaj Advani have confirmed participation in the Rs. 12.25 lakh prize-money CCI Open Snooker Championship 2018, scheduled to commence at the CCI’s Wilson Jones Billiards Room from February 1.
The top eight ranked Indians, including newly crowned national champion Sumit Talwar of Chandigarh and runner-up Malkeet Singh of Railways will be the attractions.
The purse for the champion is Rs. 2 lakh.
The other major names in the fray include Yasin Merchant and Sonic Multani, a cuesist who played on the pro circuit for a couple of years before taking time out from the sport.
Mumbai-based cueist Aditya, currently playing on the professional circuit, will return to the city to specially participate in this event.
Advani, recent recipient of the Padma Bushan award, will be a major contender. The runner-up will be richer by Rs. 1.30 lakh, losing semifinalists Rs. 75,000 each, losing quarter-finalists Rs. 40,000 each.
Players reaching the round of 16 and round of 32 would also receive cash prizes of Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 12,000 each respectively.
To bring out the best and ensure absorbing contests, a special award of Rs. 1.47 lakh is on offer for the maximum 147 break compiled during the tournament.
A cash award of Rs. 25,000 is at stake for the highest break, 130 and over.
