Aditi Singh beat Harleen Dhanda in straight sets to ease into the girls’ U-16 final in the STA-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Tournament at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, here on Thursday.
Both players started off well but it was Aditi who broke Harleen to take the lead with a 7-5 win in the opening set. Harleen, though, fought hard and stretched the second set into the tiebreaker before bowing out of the championship with a 6-7(3) loss.
In the final, Aditi will square off with Ridhima Mehra, who cut short Kanupriya Rajawat’s impressive run with a facile 6-3 6-2 win in the semifinals.
Kanupriya, though, redeemed herself with a 6-1 6-2 win over Kinjal Singh in the girls’ U-14 quarterfinals.
Anushka Sharma registered a 6-0 6-1 win over Inaksh Saran to move into the semifinals, while Vanisha Sharma downed Vishita Ranbir 7-5 6-1. Anusha Verma also had an easy outing in the quarterfinals as she packed off Sehaj Kaur 6-2 6-3.
In the boys’ U-16 category, Abhay Mohan packed off Aryan Thakur 6-3 6-3 to seal a spot in the final.
The final matches will be played on Friday, the organisers said.
