5-A-Side National Hockey Championship: Haryana Girls thrashes UP, 12-0

Haryana girls continued their impressive run in the 4th Hockey India 5-a-side Senior National Championship for Women as they steamrolled hosts Uttar Pradesh 12-2 in their Pool B match at Kanpur today to set up a quarter final clash with Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu.

Uttar Pradesh girls took the lead in the third minute through Lalrin Diki, but Haryana came back strongly, scoring four goals in the following seven minutes of the first period. The second period also belonged to Haryana as they added eight more goals to their tally to seal a 12-2 win.

Amandeep Kaur (9th, 13th, 15th) and Deepika (10th, 12th, 17th) scored a hat-trick each for Haryana, while Priyanka (4th, 6th) and captain Annu (11th, 16th) added a brace apiece to the tally. Usha (19th) and Monika Sihag (20th) struck once each. Komal Sahni (14th) scored the remaining goal for Uttar Pradesh.

Punjab, meanwhile, lost 1-2 to Hockey Odisha in their Pool A match, but made it to the quarterfinals, where they will meet the hosts Uttar Pradesh Hockey.
