Who invented Mouth Organ?
The history of the invention of mouth organ or harmonica is very cloudy yet a German young lad Christian Buschmann, aged 16 years is said to have invented it in the year 1821.
This belief or theory is more or less challenged by British reference books saying that harmonica was evolved by a Chinese instrument Sheng and the credit of its invention goes to Sir Charles Wheatstone.
But the theory that most people go with is that in the 1820’s there were many inventors who were experimenting with the Sheng and it appeared in the UK and USA almost on the same time so it is unfair to credit only one person for the invention.
Still prevalently Christian Buschmann is considered as the inventor of mouth organ.
