National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a national-level scholarship program in India to identify and nurture talented students. It is one of the most prestigious exams in India.This exam is open for students of Indian nationality studying in Class X. This examination is recognised by the official body NCERT.Students from both government and private schools are eligible to register for the scholarship programme. A student applying for the scholarship scheme can be from any state of the country.

The states and the union territories responsible for conducting the first tier screening examination known as State Level Talent Search Examination. Students are selected by each state and union territory to appear for the national level examination by the NCERT. The exam is held in Paper pen mode.

Exam Pattern - The NTSE examination is conducted in two tiers. For both the stages, the examination is divided into two papers: Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).It is an objective-type paper. Every correct answer is awarded 1 mark. There is no negative marking in Stage-I paper, however, in the Stage-II, one-third of the marks is deducted for each wrong answer.

Syllabus - 

SAT : The major subjects covered in SAT are Maths, Social Science and Science.There are 20 questions of Mathematics and major topics include geometry, number systems, algebra, mensuration, profit and loss. Social Science section consist of approximately 35 questions.Subjects like history, civics, geography, economics and general awareness are all part of Social Science syllabus. Science section consist of approximately 35 questions and subjects covered are physics, chemistry and biology.Students need to complete this section in 90 mins.

MAT : MAT or mental ability is 50% of the total weight of NTSE, i.e. MAT alone has 90 questions.Topics covered in this section includes finding the patterns (numeric, visual and verbal), direction and orientation, sequences & series, geometry, odd one out, venn diagram and puzzles.Total time alloted for section is 90 mins.

Scholarship - The students who will qualify second stage (stage-2) are eligible for the scholarship. The amount of scholarship is upto Rs.1250 per month for class XI and XII and Rs.2000 per month for students studying under graduate and above.
