Yoga ,an exercise regime that benefits the practitioner in losing weight and regaining lost agility and strength is a slow gradual process.  
As a beginner the poses that are taken up in Yoga are-  

STANDING POSES: The most strenuous exercises for the beginners , usually done as warm ups are the various standing poses.  

  • Adho Mukha Svanasana
  • UthitaParsavkonasana  
  • Malasana
  • Ardha Uttanasana
  • Tadasana
  • Lunge pose
  • Parsvottanasana
  • Urdhva Hastasana
  • Uttanasana
  • Prasarita Padottanasana
  • Trikonasana
  • Virabhadrasana 1
  • Virabhadrasana 2

BALANCING POSES: To build the strength comes the next set  of exercises i.e. balancing poses 

  • Plank pose 
  • Hand and Knees balance 
  • Vasisthana Variations 
  • Vrksasana

BACKBENDS: Highly uncomfortable to start with, they are only introduced with a little stretch to the spine. 

  • Setu Bandha Sarvangasana 
  • Bhujangasana 
  • Ashtanga Namaskara 

SEATED POSES: These poses are conducted towards the end to stretch hips and hamstrings 

  • Baddha Konasana
