In which state of India is Sitar most prevalent?
Musical instruments of Indian sub continent are divided into two categories:
Hindustani classical music which comprises of musical instruments that are influenced by Persian culture and belong to North Indian classical music. Among them are the sarod, tambura, sahnai, sarangi, tabla and sitar.
Karnatak classical musical instrument famous in Southern India include veena, mrdangam, kanjira, and violin.
Sitar has its roots in both veena and Persian Sehtar and is soulfully played by plucking on the strings that sitar is comprised with.
It is difficult to say, which state in India is Sitar most prevalent but it definitely is found in North Indian states rather than South India.
