How long should self introduction be in a debate and what points should be covered in it?
How you start your debate is crucial for the impact that is created on the audience. The time slot in debate is very important and it should be allocated precisely for your debate to be effective.
Self introduction should neither be too long to become boring nor so short that it disorients the audience. It should approximately wind up within 30 seconds. It is not your resume or your bragging platform. You have to keep in mind that the audience are busy people and you have to catch their attention with straight yet precise introduction. It should include the following points-
- Your name
- Something about you that strikes well with the audience.
- emphasis on where would you prefer to be interrupted for being asked to answer questions? Will it be after certain time slots or at the end.
- Lastly, with humble yet firm approach seek their permission to begin your debate with a catchy line.
