It is believed that Mandolin originated in the 15th century in Naples, Italy. With its originating roots in lute, Mandolin is an eight stringed instrument.  
Mandolin bore resemblance to various string instruments that were prevalent across the world, each known as a different name such as the balalaika, bouzouki, bandolim and the dambura.  
Mandolin is considered more as a traditional instrument with versatility in its application in different genres of music. Relatively easy to learn this instrument has managed to gain popularity around the globe.
